ABOUT Butterfly Buddies

💛Bringing Generations Together 💛

At Butterfly Buddies, we run joyful, welcoming baby and toddler sessions in care homes across Reading.

Our sessions are a little bit different…

They bring young children and older generations togetherto play, chat, sing and connect—creating moments of real joy for everyone involved.

✨ Why Butterfly Buddies Exists

Today, many older people experience loneliness and isolation.

At the same time, young children thrive on connection, attention and meaningful interaction.

Butterfly Buddies brings these two generations together in a way that is:

💛Natural

💛Relaxed

💛Full of warmth

The result?

💛 Children build confidence, empathy and social skills
💛Older residents feel valued, uplifted and connected
💛Parents and carers become part of something truly meaningful

👶 What to Expect at a Session

Our sessions are designed to be:

Friendly and informal

Welcoming to everyone

Flexible for all children

Each session includes:

Free play

Songs and music

Simple activities

Time to chat and connect

There’s no pressure—children can join in however they feel comfortable.

And you’ll always be warmly welcomed.

🌸 Meet Joe (Founder)

Hi, I’m Joe 👋

I’m the person behind Butterfly Buddies—it’s just me, no big company or franchise—just a big belief in bringing people together.

I’ve always felt strongly about the importance of relationships between generations.

My family and I lived in California for 8 years, and when my children were little, we made the decision to move back to the UK so they could grow up knowing their grandparents.

That experience stayed with me.

💡 How It All Started

After being a stay-at-home mum, I went on to work in pre-schools and primary schools.

I loved working with young children—but I noticed something:

Children have so much to say…
…but not always enough time or people to truly listen.

Then I watched Old People's Home for 4 Year Olds—and everything clicked.

Care homes are full of people with time, stories and warmth to share.

Children bring energy, joy and curiosity.

It felt like the perfect match.

🌱 From Small Idea to Growing Community

While working as a childminder, I started taking children into a local care home.

That’s where the Butterfly Buddies idea began to take shape.

Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, we kept those connections going—singing through windows and sharing pictures with residents.

Because once you see the impact… you can’t stop.

💛 What It Means Today

Today, Butterfly Buddies runs:

💛Weekly and fortnightly baby & toddler groups for parents/carers and childminders

💛Monthly preschool/nursery sessions

All based in care homes across Berkshire.

Every session is about:

💛Connection

💛Community

💛Creating small, meaningful moments

And honestly… the smiles when children walk into the room never get old.
